Monthly Roundtable - August 2025
The August 2025 Edition of the MInT Monthly Roundtable, centered on data standards for digital twins in transportation, with a focus on integrating mobility data across multiple transport modes. Prof. Gitakrishnan Ramadurai led this discussion on different categories of mobility data. We have made this discussion interactive by getting input from all the participants.
Dr. Abirami Krishna Ashok led the discussion on the Bharat Multi Modal Mobility Stack (BM3S), emphasizing the need for standardized data to enhance interoperability and reduce integration costs. She also covered transport modeling techniques—including the four-step model and activity-based modeling—and their relevance to real-time traffic simulation, signal optimization, and digital twin applications such as EV monitoring and autonomous driving.
Dr. Ramachandran Balakrishna addressed challenges in transportation data collection, advocating for a hybrid framework that combines traditional modeling with big data and AI-driven insights. He underscored the limitations of generative AI when used in isolation and highlighted the importance of behavioral modeling and stakeholder coordination.
The session concluded with a strong call to action: to develop comprehensive national data standards that can drive innovation and efficiency in urban mobility. The MInT Collaborative reaffirmed its commitment to building a robust digital twin framework, beginning with existing data and progressively integrating new sources and models.
